Football: Cambridge 45, Seffner Christian 31

TAMPA — A game that featured 772 yards of total offense and 76 points ended up becoming a defensive battle as Cambridge Christian defeated Seffner Christian, 45-31.

The Crusaders were down 22-17 late in the first half after giving up TD passes of 74 and 58 yards but answered with a couple of defensive scores to end the half ahead 31-22.

Cambridge came out a different team in the third quarter and Seffner didn’t score again. Junior wide receiver/cornerback Robbie Robertson said the vast change in the Lancers’ play had to do with some minor defensive and mental adjustments.

“We just had to start hitting them a little lower,” said Robertson who lead Cambridge with 172 receiving yards to go along with two TDs and a game-sealing interception in the fourth quarter. “We had to play a little faster because we’re not as big as them. We just needed to react to their plays and good things would happen.”

Cambridge outscored Seffner 23-0 in the second half.
